Overview

Madalyn focuses her practice on complex insurance litigation and advising policyholders in insurance coverage matters. As a member of the firm’s nationwide insurance coverage team, Madalyn represents commercial policyholders in a range of matters involving property and business interruption loss, commercial general liability insurance, and cyber insurance.

Prior to joining the firm, Madalyn was a Pathways to C-Suite Intern with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. While in law school, Madalyn was the Vice President of the Black Law Students Association, a student librarian in the Law Library, and a student worker in and ambassador for the Admissions Office at the University of Virginia School of Law.

Experience

  • Auditing insurance programs for cyber risks for large companies.
  • Assisting clients and brokers in assessing changes to cyber policy program to enhance coverage of cyber events including but not limited to: ransomware, social engineering fraud, and data breaches.  
  • Advising clients on insurance coverage issues relating to underlying litigation filed against its insured that raised issues concerning sovereign immunity, the Texas Construction Anti-Indemnity Act, and potential actions against third-party defendants.
  • Advising clients on potential avenues of recovery after denial of coverage by insurer.
  • Assessing strength of justification for late notice for policyholders assessing possibility of legal action against insurers. 
  • Assisting clients in analyzing policy language to determine insurers’ strength of reasoning for coverage denials.
