Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to announce that the firm has once again been named to Law360’s list of Environmental Practice Groups of the Year, marking its 12th recognition in the award’s 15-year history. Law360 recognized the firm’s environmental team for its prominent role in some of the most significant national environmental policy debates, regulatory developments and litigation.

“We are honored to be named once again by Law360 as one of the best environmental teams in the country,” said Deidre G. Duncan, partner and leader of the firm’s environmental practice. “This repeat recognition is a testament to the wealth and depth of experience our team brings to our clients, and the significant impact we’ve had across the spectrum of environmental matters.”

Top among the matters leading to this award are the numerous climate change lawsuits that the firm has been handling, led by partner Shannon Broome, for Marathon Petroleum Corporation in state and federal courts around the country.  In the last year, the firm secured several favorable rulings in these cases, including a complete dismissal of all claims in the suit brought by the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore in which the firm convinced the court that the claims exceeded the bounds of Maryland state law and were pre-empted by federal law.

The firm’s internationally recognized environmental practice focuses on all areas of environmental law, including air, water, and waste regulatory programs, site remediation, chemical regulation, and natural resources and species protection. With nearly 50 environmental-focused attorneys across the nation, many of whom have prior experience working in federal regulatory agencies, the group represents clients from a wide range of industries on matters spanning the full spectrum of legal services. The practice’s broad scope includes legislative and policy development and advocacy, litigation and legal challenges to regulatory programs, compliance counseling and enforcement defense, and permitting and other support for major transactions and large scale development projects.
