IFLR Recognizes Hunton as Advisor on Domestic Impact Deal of the Year at 2025 Africa Awards
Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is proud to share that a deal for which the firm served as advisor was recently recognized as Impact Deal of the Year: Domestic at the 2025 IFLR Africa Awards, an annual event that celebrates the region’s most innovative cross-border work and those behind it.
The firm was recognized for its role advising Oando PLC on the successful acquisition of Nigerian Agip Oil Company from the Italian energy company, Eni, for a total consideration of $783 million. According to IFLR, “The acquisition of Nigerian Agip Oil Company by Oando was a precedent-setting transaction in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria… The deal has significantly reshaped the ownership landscape of the upstream oil and gas assets in Nigeria whilst preserving operational continuity within the assets.”
The Oando transaction was also previously honored with a Deal of the Year award at Africa Energy Week (AEW) 2024, an annual event hosted by the African Energy Chamber. The AEW Deal of the Year award “recognizes the most transformative and impactful deal in the energy sector – honoring excellence in negotiation, strategic alignment, innovation and collaboration – and celebrates deals that drive advancements in energy and economic growth.”
Hunton’s team for this transaction was led by London partners Simon Collier and Dimitri Papaefstratiou, along with counsel Joseph Lam and associates James Bennett, Alex Cunningham, Scott Loader, Emmanuel Olawore, and Edgar Thornton.
