Energy Group Plays Key Role in Project Finance International’s 2015 Asia-Pacific Power Deal of the Year

An energy-financing deal for which Hunton & Williams LLP served as project counsel to San Buenaventura Power Ltd. Co. has won Project Finance International’s 2015 Asia-Pacific Power Deal of the Year.

Hunton’s Asia-based team, led by James P. Bradley and Edward B. Koehler, represented SBPL in a joint venture between MERALCO PowerGen Corporation, the power generation subsidiary of Manila Electric Company (PSE: MER), the largest distribution utility in the Philippines, and New Growth, B.V., the international investment arm of Thailand’s Electricity Generating Public Co. Ltd. (EGCO) (SET: EGCO), in completing project agreements and assisting with securing a PHP42.15 billion (~$890M) loan from a consortium of Asian-based banks to fund the debt portion of the construction and other project costs of SBPL’s 500-megawatt gross coal-fired power plant to be situated in Mauban, Quezon.
